The CRJ full motion sim
So, yesterday
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
for an interview/sim screening for a new job as pilot. First off, once more a big thanks to everyone who did so, I really appreciate it.
Turns out the simulator screening was what I hoped it would be. Quite casual, light on the “I’m trying to trip you up” questions and heavy emphasis on airplane handling and manual flying skills.
Apart from some minor niggles that come with switching to a jet for the first time, I kind of nailed it. Passed the screening with relative ease and have to await the paperwork now to officially start the new job and typerating.
I can’t really explain the feeling, as by now I am pretty messed up from 29 hours awake and still a few more hours to go. But it basically feels like a couple of years of work lower on the ladder is paying off with a fairly significant step up.
Now, I don’t make a habit out of posting about my life online, but I might update later again with more experiences moving into jets.

Mazel Tov! Where in Europe? We could be neighbors (I’m in Belgium)

Congrats! To me being a pilot is way cooler than being in professional sports. Unless a race car is involved. Good luck.

Congratulations! I don’t know about anyone else but I’d be very interested in hearing more about your experiences as a pilot and how you got into it.

That’s awesome. Best of luck.

Congrats! You will have a sweet job and the envy of many 5 year olds who dream of flying airplanes.

Weird that they release the video of your simulation landing so quickly...
Good luck!

Congratulations! Please do post your experiences if you are able. There are a few av geeks around here (myself included), including a couple of aero engineers. I’m sure we’d all enjoy reading about what it’s like in the front seat.

Haha, there's an urban legend about a full motion sim tipping off of its hydraulic arms when the occupants tried to perform a barrel roll... Apparently there were injuries :P.

Can't go wrong with Hot Shots :)

Thanks! I will keep it in mind :). I'm not too much of a writer though, and like I said I generally don't make a habit out of sharing my real, personal/work life online. I will still consider it, there might of course always be really interesting stuff worth sharing.

Alright, then I'm technically a neighbor indeed, as a Dutchman ;). I do my flying more towards the East of Europe though.

Modern day aviation is not exactly glamorous or the best choice for anyone with a need for a sort of normal social life... Fortunately for the masses, there are still idiots like me who just can't stay away from planes and flying ;).

Thanks, and who knows :). I do hope most of them will come to their senses though.

Will definitely try to, but as explained in another reply as well, I'm not the kind of person who shares a bunch of his social/professional life online all the time. I did in this case since it looked to be a big milestone and I needed some enthusiasm on top of my own (which you guys certainly delivered :D).

Many people find the job of airline pilot fascinating, perhaps mostly because planes are cool and pilots sit behind a locked door. (And you get to look out of the front window, which must be bitchin). There’s special jargon, codes, all sorts of things that most people aren’t privy to. On the other had, like most jobs, I imagine it can also be pretty mundane at times. Anyway, share when you can, or when something fun happens. Even simple insights into the day-to-day life of a pilot would be interesting. We’d love to hear it. And if you get bored on a layover, you can dig through my Aviation History posts. They hit Oppo every Tuesday and Friday.

Yes, those are awesome! Which I shamefully admit I have never told you in a comment.

I’m in Southwestern, rural Belgium. If you ever come through CRL or BRU or even Lille, hit me up, I’m 40km from the smaller airports.

I will definitely have flights to Brussels in the future, so who knows, haha.
